Times Union, NEW YORK STATE CANAL CORPORATION NOTICE OF PROPOSED ABANDONMENT (SALE OF REAL PROPERTY) OF A portion of Erie Canal land situated in the Town of Colonie, County of Albany, State of New York TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, that pursuant to the provisions of Section 51 of the Canal Law; the New York State Canal Corporation; a subsidiary of the New York State Thruway Authority; invites interested parties to file written statements either supporting or opposing the proposed abandonment of a portion of Erie Canal Land situated in the Town of Colonie, Albany County to David Boshart: New York State Canal Corporation; 200 Southern Boulevard; Albany, NY 12201. Statements will be accepted until close of business day on September 18, 2015. The parcel proposed to be abandoned is an approximately 1.46 acre irregularly shaped parcel (Property) located on the south side of Cohoes Crescent Road approximately 0.3 miles southeast of US Route 9 (New Loudon Road), in the Town of Colonie. The Property is northeast of the Town of Colonie Landfill and is a remnant detached portion of canal lands. The Property has been used for decades by the Town as a portion of a berm around the landfill. The Property is shown as Albany County tax lot number 02.03-2-8. The Property proposed to be abandoned for canal purposes and sold to the Town of Colonie to be formally blended into the landfill property and continue to be used as a berm to mitigate visual impacts of the landfill. The property is shown on publicly filed tax maps; as a portion of Barge Canal Parcel No. 1736 appropriated by the State of New York in 1909 and more specifically shown on Abandonment Map No. 966 on file at the New York State Canal Corporation, 200 Southern Boulevard, Albany, New York 12201.
